Individual Configuration

These information are intended for an individual configuration of the IPTC Writer, and are designed for experienced users.
All global configuration settings as well as all menu texts and buttons are stored within the configuration file config_deu.cfg. This is where you can, among other things, customize IPTC data fields. The standardized IPTC data fields for usage can be seen as some kind of example configuration.

If you need other data fields you can easily create new ones via the configuration file. The next paragraph contains several information about the structure of the configuration file. The config_deu.cfg can be edited via common text editors like WordPad. The file can be found within the program directory of the IPTC Writer. We recommend to create a backup before any changes are conducted. For changing the config_deu.cfg be aware that: Everything you do is on your own responsibility. Though the bigger part is self explaining, some advise at this point:

IPTC-Data Fields

Following field types are defined:

  • 0 = Single field
  • 1 = Large text field
  • 2 = Endless field
  • 3 = Date field  (yyyymmdd)
  • 4 = Date field (ddmmyyyy)
  • 5 = Time field

Example for assigning a field type:
2_55_label=DateCreated
2_55_ type=4

IPTCFields describes the list of IPTC fields, splitted by semicolon. By changing the order you can determine which fields are shown first. If deleted from this list, they won't be shown anyway. These fields are requested as prompts.
  • Spelling of "Tags": record_marker_tag (e.g.l: 2_50_label)
  • label -Tag = Field name
  • type -Tag = Field type
  • readonly -Tag = read only (1=on, 0 = off)
  • predefs -Tag = Preset value as pulldown menu
  • length -Tag = maximum number of letters for this field (applies just for field types 0, 1 and 2). Is no value entered, the default is 30.

Preset Values ("predefs")

Preset values for certain IPTC fields are stored within the config_deu.cfg file. These are presented to the user via a pull down menu. Existing contents of an image file are added to the pull down menu automatically during loading and are now selectable. Only values of this menu can be added. A text input is no longer possible.

Verwendung: "record"_"marker"_predefs=Vorgabe
Beispiel für 2:20: 2_20_predefs=Vorgabe 1; Vorgabe 2

A semicolon is used as separator and is therefore not usable as preset value.
